I have always wanted to be self-employed…and now I am. Well nearly.

I am really happy to share the news with you all that at the beginning of the month handed my notice in to my part time role as a Careers Advisor, and so in December 2017 I will be officially 100% self-employed.

For the last five months I have been building Lockey PA Services up alongside my ‘normal’ job and the time has come where I have had to make a decision.  Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be at this point so quickly.  Only five months ago I sort of ‘fell’ into starting my business when a colleague recommended me and I gained my first client. Now I have five regular clients with enquiries coming in every week and so I have made the decision to fully commit to the business and make this my sole source of income.

Why outsource to a Virtual Assistant?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Life is busy these days and people expect so much as a result of advancing technology. On top of keeping clients happy and completing the work they are paying for, you are also keeping your business running – something which takes up a lot of time and can cause business owners a lot of stress.

The Federation of Small business completed a survey in May 2016 which showed that 67% of small business owners felt that the administrative burden is preventing them from focusing on the primary purpose of their business.   On average business owners spent only eight hours 50 minutes per month on new business development, around one quarter of the 33 hours spent on administrative tasks.

Why I love being a Virtual Assistant

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Out of all my professional roles, administration has always been my favourite part. Becoming a virtual assistant first crossed my mind around five years ago after completing my Executive PA Diploma. I have always wanted to be self-employed – I think this comes from my parents owning their own business my whole life. It is just something I know I can do, I have the drive, I have the passion and I have the stubbornness!

After having my little boy in 2015 I returned to work part time in an administration role, then moving back into Careers advice after a further 14 months in March 2017.  Having time with my son is incredibly important to me but I knew that I needed to do something to help support my family financially. So, I decided to launch my business. With several years’ experience under my belt, a new outlook on life because of my son and the support of my family and friends – what better time!

So in June 2017 Lockey PA Services was born and I have officially been up and running two months! It has been fantastic.

Getting to know you…

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

I thought that now I was up and running I should write a blog post to tell you all a little bit about myself.  I am a real people person and truly believe that getting to know someone, their preferences, their likes, their personality, really is the key to developing good working relationships.  I like to get to know my clients, how they work, what makes them tick, so it’s only fair you get to know a little bit about me right?

“One of the luckiest things that can happen to you in life is, I think to have a happy childhood.” Agatha Christie

Well, I won’t bore you with my childhood memoirs, but safe to say I had a very lovely idyllic childhood growing up on the beach in North Wales with my parents and sister.  My parents owned a beachside restaurant and I can say with confidence that the values and worth ethic I take pride in today, are very much owed to them.  I worked from a young age in our restaurant and grew up knowing the importance of good customer service, appreciating the value of hard work and taking pride in earning my own money as I turned into a young adult who left for Newcastle University at 18 to study History.
